Immersive audiovisual installation
Technique: mapping and visual projection with immersive sound design.
An immersive work created on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Friuli earthquake, at the Castle of Gemona.
As part of a comprehensive exhibition on the earthquake, the project tells the story of life in Gemona before 1976. Archival materials, including photographs, postcards, and Super 8 footage, populate the “Room of Memories.” Upon entering, the wall-mounted mirror reflects the viewer alongside the artwork, creating an enhanced sense of immersion amplified by the musical soundscape.
The visual continuity of the projections encapsulates within this room the memories of people from a town that has now disappeared-fragments of history. Fundamental to the development of this project was the study and curation of an archive kindly provided by the Municipality of Gemona, comprising both professional and amateur material. The sound design, nostalgic yet tense, serves as a prelude to the earthquake that was to come.
